I've read that Skinner invented the pigeon-guided missile during WWII, but -- lucky for the pigeons -- the Army refused to try it. Phew.

Pigeons predominated in BF Skinner's behavioral research. He was still alive when I was in graduate school at Harvard. A feisty classmate would peck at the numbers with her nose whenever we were in the elevator with him. What a great view!
