The pomegranate tree

The house I grew up in had a pomegranate tree in the backyard. Late in summer we'd pluck pomegranates and eat the translucent seeds until our fingers and clothes were stained with red juice. I assumed there was a pomegranate tree in every backyard and I remember being surprised when I discovered this was not the case.

Kind of like the mulberries and honeysuckle I grew up with. Everyone *should* have yummy things available for the picking.

Exactly. They always say childhood is a garden, and maybe this is what they mean.
