Bee time

Honeywort, which is abundant here, is so beloved of bees that ancient beekeepers used it to lure bees into new hives. The tall blue-green stalks reseed every year, and when the nodding purple bracts appear in early spring so do the bumblebees. On the other side of the house my little lavender patch is in glorious bloom, keeping the honey bees occupied from morning to night. No matter where I am in the yard I am accompanied by the persistent thrum of happy bees at work.

They're so solid and furry, like little mammals, aren't they?
