Goodbye to the blues

I woke up this morning dreaming about a little blue butterfly that no longer exists. The Xerces Blue was an iridescent blue butterfly that lived for tens of thousands of years in the sand dunes of Western San Francisco, in an area now known as the Sunset District. As the dunes were buried under suburbs and strip malls the little butterfly was relegated to vacant lots, and after 1943 it was never seen again, except perhaps in a memory or a dream.
