Dinner and discontent

I once knew a woman whose husband got up one evening in the middle of dinner and said, “I can’t take this anymore." He left and he never came back. This story did not really surprise me, because, let's face it, dinner is the most dangerous meal of the day. Breakfast and lunch are just not dramatic enough to sustain the kind of tension and angst that fuel romantic disintegration. But dinner? If a relationship is going to go, it's going to go at dinner.

Hell, I'm canceling the reservations I had for tonight!

Makes me think of the times I wish I had walked away from the table for good.

This is why I never eat after sundown.
